Summer vacation is on the way and many are faced with the chore of finding a Kennel to take the dogs. We have all heard horror stories of Dogs coming home with illness, skin irritations and worse yet behavior “issues.” A cat owner posted on a yahoo listing for one of the “premier” Dog facilities in the Baltimore area that her cat was lost when she went to pick it up and they found it in the air conditioning ducts 3 days later! OH NO~!
Dogs do get traumatized when their environment changes. Dogs are territorial creatures of habit. Most Dogs know the routine in their own house and unfortunately do NOT understand language, preventing us from explaining anything new to them.
I refuse to kennel my Dogs when I go on vacation. After all it is their house and I pay the mortgage! I feel lucky that they allow me on the bed to sleep. They have me well trained to provide them treats and dinner. I simply love them too much to send them to a kennel. For years I used a particular woman that was a local Dog Sitter. She knew the dogs and I trusted her.
A few years back I called her to arrange for my winter vacation and to my dismay she decided to stop her Dog sitting service. In a panic I got my googler out and began to search! Change is traumatic for people too! ;)
In short order I got to the “Fetch Petcare” website. They are a national franchise with most of the Central and Southern Maryland area covered. Their franchisees are licensed and bonded, friendly, pet lovers and are very conscientious. I deal with Heather in my area and will recommend her to anyone.
The first time I used their services I got a call on my cell while in Arizona on vacation. And ice storm was in the forecast in Baltimore and the Petsitter that was assigned to me called to ask if it was OK if she took my Dogs to her house in case it was too icy to get to the house. She took them to her house for the night and all was well.
Fetch provides many services including feeding house plants, Koi in the pond and retrieving your mail. They leave “Report Card” for you that is a daily diary of how your Dog behaves and their interaction. Their prices are reasonable and the piece of mind is worth a million bucks!
Of course my two Dogs Ella and Dubs get straight A’s!
